It has been an exciting fall so far, and we are so thrilled for all the authors who have received recent awards attention for their work.
Congratulations to Hoa Nguyen (A THOUSAND TIMES YOU LOSE YOUR TREASURE) and Douglas Kearney (SHO), whose books have been named finalists for the 2021 National Book Awards. The National Book Award Finalist Reading will be presented virtually in partnership with The New School on November 9th at 7pm ET and the winners will be announced on November 17th at the 72nd National Book Award Ceremony, which also will be held virtually. Be sure to follow @wavepoetry on social media for important updates about the details of these events.
We are so thrilled that Don Mee Choi (DMZ COLONY, HARDLY WAR) has been awarded a 2021 MacArthur Fellowship in poetry and translation for "bearing witness to the effects of military violence and U.S. imperialism on the civilians of the Korean Peninsula." DMZ COLONY was the winner of the National Book Award in 2020, and it is exciting that these honors continue to bring visibility to her powerful work. In Don Mee's words, "The question I often I ask myself is, does my art perpetuate historical oblivion? I hope that my work generates literary resistance against geopolitical borders, including the borders of linguistic and literary conventions."
